Works Minister Dr. Kh. Ratan Kumar Singh inspected the site for construction of Manipur Bhawan at Rongpur in Silchar, Assam on Tuesday. A Manipur Bhawan in the area has been a long pending demand of the Manipuri inhabiting in and around Barak Valleyarea and Cachar. The site inspected yesterday measures an area of about 24 Bighas. After inspecting the site, the work minister assured the civil society representatives to put up the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister.
The site is located at the site of the National Highway. At present the site belongs to some individuals but source from the locality said that the state government will not face any difficulty in acquiring the land. The locals also suggested the site to be most suited for construction of the Manipur Bhawan. The Works Minister’s inspection visit was accompanied by S. Nandakishore Singh, Advisor, All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union, representatives of the All Assam Manipuri Women Meira Paibi Co-Ordination Committee, Silchar, R.K. Ranendrajit, Editor Freedom, Advocate Y. Ratan Singh, President CADA, Kh Ratan Singh, Advisor All Manipur Students’ Union and S. Herajit Singh, President, All Assam Manipuri Student Union.
Speaking to media persons, President of All Assam Students’ Association said that the association along with the All Manipur Students’ Union has been urging the government for construction of a Manipur Bhavan at Rongpur as visitors from Manipur especially the students and the VIPs are facing lot of inconveniences in visiting at Cachar from time to time. The matter has been put to the notice of the Chief Minister several times but due to financial problem face by the state government the proposal has remained pending. He appealed the government to begin construction of the Manipur Bhawan at the earliest possible time.
