Imphal, Aug 31:

Womenfolk of Keishamthong Assembly Constituency and women groups from other parts of the state have continued to stand for Thounaojam Maheswar who have recently received legal notice from the Assam Rifles.
Assam Rifles served a legal notice to the National Secretary of the Republican Party of India (Athawale), Thounaojam Maheswar in connection with his speech demanding the removal of the Assam Rifles and highlighting the excess committed by the AR troopers during the violence that sparked since May 3.
A committee formed against the serving of legal notice to Maheshwar said that mass protest will begin from 11 a.m. of September 2, if the Assam Rifles does not withdraw the legal notice.
Meanwhile, Thounaojam Maheswar said that he will never apologize in response to the legal notice served by the Assam Rifles in connection with his speech delivered through various media channels.
“I am replying with a concrete legal reply and I am not apologising to them and I don’t owe an apology to them”, Thounaojam Maheswar said in a Facebook post adding that serving legal notice to him is in violation of his fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution of India.
“What I have said is utilising my Fundamental Right of Right to Speech and it’s not baseless. A concrete proof is lying on social media, YouTube & Google itself”, Maheshwar said justifying his statement in connection with the AR troopers.
