VKSA campaign reaches over 5,500 farmers in Imphal East District

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal East, carried out a successful awareness campaign under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) from May 29 to June 12, 2025, covering 72 villages across Imphal East district. According to the organisers, the campaign reached out to 5,531 farmers with the objective of sensitising them on modern and sustainable agricultural practices.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with scientists from ICAR Manipur Centre and Central Agricultural University (CAU), along with officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, and Fisheries. Local representatives, including village chairpersons, Zilla Parishad members, Pradhans, FPO chairpersons, board members, and village-level club secretaries, also took part in the campaign.
It was informed that Dr. Ch. Basuda Devi, State Nodal Officer and Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Manipur; Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi, District Nodal Officer and Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Imphal East; and T. Dara, General Secretary of the All Manipur Kishan Sangha, were among the key participants who guided the initiative. Subject Matter Specialists, scientists, and departmental experts delivered technical sessions during the field visits.
The team reportedly delivered training and awareness on a range of topics such as vermicomposting, oyster mushroom cultivation, organic and natural farming, improved crop varieties for the Kharif season, soil health card schemes, and various central government-sponsored agricultural schemes including PMKSY, RKVY, PMMSY, and SMAM. Farmers were also briefed on animal healthcare and fish production technologies.
During the campaign, Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi was said to have encouraged farmers to become aware of the government schemes available to them in order to improve productivity and attain sustainable livelihoods. She reportedly stated that the adoption of advanced and environmentally friendly agricultural practices was essential for long-term development.
The campaign also included demonstrations of posters on various technologies, and distribution of agricultural literature in the local language to help farmers understand and adopt the methods effectively. It was also informed that the VKSA and ICAR theme songs were played at each location to engage the community during the campaign.
