On the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day celebration held at Bakshi Ground, Dungrei, Hundung, Ukhrul district on Sunday, Eno. Addie Chiphang, a distinguished journalist and editor of The Dawn Tantak, was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation by Enoli Kangoo Zuringla, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul. The recognition celebrates his unparalleled contribution to journalism over the past 29 years, serving as the voice of Ukhrul and beyond.
Addie Chiphang is one of Ukhrul’s most respected journalists, having worked across numerous newspapers and television channels in various capacities. His career spans nearly three decades, during which he has established himself as a tireless advocate for delivering news to the most remote and marginalized communities.
Chiphang is the founding convenor/President of the Ukhrul Journalist Association, and also former President of now known as the Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA). Currently, he serves as the vice president and finance secretary of the Manipur Hills Journalist Union (MHJU). He has also held significant positions such as assistant secretary general and executive secretary of the Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM), underscoring his leadership and commitment to the profession.
Presently, Addie Chiphang is the editor of The Dawn Tantak, a pioneering Tangkhul-English bilingual newspaper that first began publication on July 5, 2011. Originally based in Nagaram, Imphal, the paper shifted its operations to Ukhrul in 2019. Despite challenges such as technical setbacks and the COVID-19 pandemic, Chiphang successfully transitioned the publication to an online platform, ensuring its continued role in informing and empowering the community.
Known for his extensive experience and unwavering dedication, Chiphang has been a beacon of truth and information for the people of Ukhrul. Through his work, he has consistently amplified the voices of the underrepresented, providing critical insights and coverage of issues that often go unnoticed. His recognition on Republic Day is a testament to his lifelong commitment to journalism and his role as the mouthpiece of Ukhrul for decades.
