VDF personnel urged Government for raising basic pay

All Manipur VDF Welfare Association (AMVDFWA) organised a general conference regarding the demands of VDF to have a separate battalion and to get 13 months payment today at Irabat Bhavan.

Speaking during the conference, L. Sotinkumar Singh, Secretary, All India Trade Union Congress Manipur said that in today’s time the minimum wage should be Rs. 15,000 in order to meet the daily basic requirements for running a family, and while the payments of VDF personnel are very less, they render their duties day and night more than any police personal. There are 10,500 VDF personnel in all the nine districts of the state and there is a need for unity to fight for their rights. He further urged every VDF personnel to form a committee or organization and struggle for their demands.

The general conference was also attended by Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, President, AMWJU, N. Shanta Singh, Advisor cum Chairman, AMVDFWA, Professor, L. Sadananda Singh, Secretary, Senior Citizen for Society and H. Kulamani, Secretary, All Manipur Road Transport and Drivers Motor Workers’ Union as Presidium members.
