United Naga Council bars Congress MP Alfred and two others from public platform

Imphal, June 14:

The United Naga Council (UNC), representing Nagas in Manipur, has imposed a seven-year ban on Congress MP Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur and two others from participating in public platforms and holding any leadership roles within the Naga community. This action comes in response to the participation of NPF’s candidate, an ally of BJP, in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat elections. The two individuals, S. Kho John and Allyson Abonmai, had contested as independents in the same constituency.
According to a public notification issued on June 13, the UNC stated that it took this measure due to the trio’s deliberate defiance and failure to respect the UNC’s position during the recent Lok Sabha elections. The UNC also cited their intentional challenge to the unity and stance of the Naga people. This move underscores tensions within the Naga community and its political dynamics in Manipur.
