Union Government directs tough action amid escalating violence

IT News
Imphal, Nov 16:

The Union Home Ministry has directed all security forces deployed in Manipur to take immediate and necessary measures to restore order and peace, citing the fragile security situation in the state over the past few days. This directive follows the grim discovery of the bodies of a woman and two children on Friday evening, believed to be part of a family of six reported missing from Manipur’s Jiribam since Monday. The bodies were found floating in the Jiri River, adding to the state’s ongoing turmoil.
In a statement, the ministry acknowledged the deteriorating security scenario, noting that armed miscreants from both communities involved in the conflict have engaged in violence, resulting in the loss of lives and significant disruption of public order.
To address the escalating situation, the Home Ministry has emphasized strict action against individuals or groups involved in violent or disruptive activities. Key cases related to the ongoing violence have been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for thorough and effective investigation.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to restoring normalcy in the state, urging security forces to act decisively. “The security forces have been directed to take necessary steps to restore order and peace. Strict action would be initiated against anyone trying to indulge in violent and disruptive activities,” the statement read.
The Union Home Ministry also appealed to the public to maintain peace, avoid falling prey to rumors, and cooperate with security forces in their efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
