UNICEF seeks Governor’s support on assistance for IDPs in Manipur

Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF for Assam and the Northeastern States, called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan today to discuss ongoing humanitarian initiatives in the state, with particular focus on support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Dr. Madhulika, accompanied by a team of four UNICEF officials, apprised the Governor of the organisation’s efforts in the region, including the distribution of educational and sports kits to children among the IDP population in Manipur. She also briefed him on UNICEF’s continued work in vaccination and immunization campaigns aimed at improving child health across affected communities.
During the meeting, Dr. Madhulika sought the Governor’s support in overcoming certain financial constraints faced by the organisation and requested his guidance on ensuring sustained assistance for the displaced families. The Governor acknowledged the challenges and assured UNICEF of his attention and cooperation in facilitating their humanitarian work.
Governor Bhalla appreciated the dedication of the UNICEF team and encouraged them to continue prioritising vulnerable groups, particularly children and displaced families, in their outreach programmes.
