The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the bomb attack on the residence of Khashim Vashum, the Minister of Transport, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary for the Government of Manipur. The attack occurred on September 14, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m. in Ukhrul town, which is known for its peaceful atmosphere.
In a statement, the Council expressed its disapproval of the “senseless” act committed by criminals, characterizing it as an attempt to disrupt the tranquility of the region. The Council emphasized that intimidation and threats are unacceptable methods for addressing grievances and asserted that the attack on the Minister’s residence is not only an assault on his family but also a challenge to all citizens who uphold the rule of law.
The Council has called for a prompt and thorough investigation into the incident by relevant authorities, urging that those responsible be met with stringent and exemplary punishment. It has also cautioned the Naga community to remain vigilant against divisive and malicious efforts aimed at undermining their unity and aspirations. The Council urged against falling into the traps set by adversaries, emphasizing the need for steadfastness and peace.
