Unauthorised individuals are organising meetings and issuing orders – Chairman, Housing Society

Imphal, July 9:

The chairman of Manipur State Apex Co-operative Housing Society Ltd. has said the unauthorised individuals are organising meetings and issuing orders to defame the society.
At a press meet held at his residence in Thangmeiband, Society Chairman Thiyam Meghachandra revealed that a primary member, Konthoujam Bisheshor Meitei, called a meeting without informing the Board of Directors and Chairman, and subsequently formed a sub-committee.
Th Meghachandra emphasized that neither the Board of Directors nor the Chairman had ever called a meeting for primary members, asserting that such actions violate the Society’s bye-laws. He clarified that only the Board has the authority to form committees, and any unauthorized actions are illegitimate.
Reports have emerged that the Society will issue loan forms and recruit new members, actions which Th Meghachandra stated were not authorized by the Board. He described these actions as attempts to defame the Society and warned that legal action would be initiated against those misusing the Society’s name.
He said, “The Society is currently facing financial strain due to non-repayment of loans secured from HUDCO and LIC in 1984-85, with the Manipur government acting as guarantor. As a result, the Society’s funds have dwindled to zero, and its registration with the National Co-operative Housing Federation of India has not been renewed.”
“To reaffiliate, the Society needs to conduct and clear audits for several years. In 2023, the Board Members and active members contributed funds to revive the Society, aiming to restore its operations and support community development projects,” Th Meghachandra added.
The Chairman urged members to be vigilant and truthful in their dealings to maintain the integrity of the Society.
