Thoubal, May.26,

As per the information given by Khadem Meghachadra Singh of Sugunu Bazar, 2(two) Kingfishers, scientific name- Alcedo atthis were rescued by the staffs of Kakching Range Office with the assistance from Moirangthem Open Singh, Honorary Wild life warden, Thoubal.

The Range Forest Officer/Kakching N. Munal Meitei said the Kingfisher has become a locally endangered species in Manipur and in the past we could see the bird abundantly in and around our lakes, rivers and water bodies. But now-a-days, due to the habitat lost and indiscriminate killing, the bird, Kingfishers are hardly seen near to our surroundings.

Kingfishers are very Environmental friendly birds. They feed on a wide variety of prey. They are most famous for hunting, in catching and eating  the fishes. They also feeds on other species like frogs, worms, insects, spiders and other our harmful insects.

Thus, not only beautiful, the Kingfishers take a very important role to maintain our Ecological balances.

Therefore, Range Forest Officer, N.Munal Meitei also thanks the person who save the two kingfishers and for handed over to the Forest Department, Manipur. He requested to all the concerned general public not to kill the wild animals and birds but to save the stranded animals and birds and hand it over to the nearest Forest Office
