The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Kh. Arundas Singh, Asst. Prof. Department of Economics AS humanity confronts environmental degradation, climate change, social inequality, and economic uncertainty, the way we define and pursue development demands serious reflection.
This is where sustainability becomes central. Sustainability is not only about protecting the environment; it is about maintaining a balance between economic growth, social equity, and ecological integrity. Development that exhausts natural resources, marginalizes communities, or compromises future generations cannot be considered true progress. Sustainable development urges us to meet present needs responsibly while safeguarding the rights and resources of those yet to come.
Human progress, therefore, must be measured not merely by material wealth but by improvements in health, education, equality, freedom, dignity, and quality of life. A society can be considered truly progressive only when development benefits all sections of people and enhances human capabilities without harming nature.
The close relationship between sustainability, development, and human progress is clearly reflected in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals emphasize poverty reduction, quality clean energy, climate action, education, and reduced inequalities demonstrating that economic growth, social justice, and environmental protection together, he said.
The two day seminar was to have three technical sessions. Scholars from various universities and Colleges across India were expected to place their views and papers in the two day proceedings.
