Khumanthem Diana Devi, IAS, Director of Transport, Manipur, called upon media professionals to play an active role in promoting road safety during a Media Sensitization Programme titled “Strengthening Media Partnership for Safer Roads” held at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) today. The programme was organised by the Transport Department as part of National Road Safety Month, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Diana Devi highlighted the department’s ongoing initiatives to reduce road accidents, including awareness campaigns, traffic regulation enforcement, and community engagement programmes. She urged journalists and editors to use their platforms to reinforce safe driving practices, responsible road use, and adherence to traffic rules, noting that sustained media involvement is crucial in shaping public behaviour and saving lives.
The programme was graced by Additional Chief Secretary (Textiles, Commerce & Industries and Transport), Government of Manipur, Anurag Bajpai, IFS, as the Chief Guest. Bajpai emphasised the media’s vital role in building awareness, stressing that accurate reporting and continuous campaigns can significantly lower the incidence of road accidents.
Asem Bhakta Singh, President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, and Khogendra Khomdram, President of the Editors’ Guild Manipur, attended as Guests of Honour, calling for closer coordination between media houses and government departments to promote a culture of responsible road use.
Special invitees Ngangom Uttam Singh, MCS, Director, IPR, and Chiphang Cecelia Sopemla, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Traffic Control Police Wing, shared insights on effective information dissemination and traffic enforcement measures.
