Imphal, Feb 22:

The Kumram Village community has been left reeling in shock and sorrow following the brutal murder of Honpam Chithung. Amidst widespread condemnation of the heinous act, the village authorities have issued a statement seeking justice and clarity surrounding the circumstances of the crime.
According to various sources, the tragic demise of Honpam Chithung, son of Lt. Akhon Chithung of Kumram Village, unfolded under mysterious circumstances. Family members revealed that during their last telephonic conversation with the deceased on February 10, 2024, he sounded panicked and hysterical before the call abruptly ended due to an interruption, followed by the mobile phone being switched off. Days later, Chithung’s lifeless body was discovered in a brutal state near the Indo-Burmese Village of Onshiya.
Confirmation of Honpam Chithung’s death came on February 13, 2024, after images of his deceased body circulated on social media platforms. However, the situation took a grim turn when the Eastern Kuki Chief Association (EKCA) purportedly delivered a box believed to contain Chithung’s remains during a reception program at Kamjong Public Ground on February 18, 2024. Despite this delivery, the family, along with the Kumram villagers and Tangkhul Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), refused to accept the contents as the mortal remains of Honpam Chithung until DNA or forensic tests could confirm their identity. This refusal raises pertinent questions about the motivations behind the disposal of the body and underscores the need for a thorough investigation into the crime.
In response to this tragic incident, the Kumram Village community vehemently condemns such barbaric acts in the present era and demands justice for the perpetrators involved. They call upon all peace-loving citizens to unite against such nefarious elements that seek to sow discord within society.
Furthermore, the community extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Tangkhul Naga Long, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long, Zingsho Longphang, and all CSOs from various regions for their unwavering support in the endeavor to retrieve and identify the mortal remains of Honpam Chithung. They remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice as they await the conclusive results of forensic testing.
