Student bodies condemn police actions at school as “uncivilized”

Imphal, August 1:

Six student bodies of Manipur have condemned the actions of the state police at Eastern Ideal School in Akampat during a peace rally by inmates of the Akampat relief camp.
In a joint press release, the Manipur Students Federation (MSF), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), and another student union expressed their condemnation.
The condemnation follows an incident where state police fired tear gas shells into the school, causing mental trauma and emotional distress among the students. The student bodies issued a joint statement strongly criticizing the police’s actions and described them as an example of an “uncivilized mindset.” They called for such actions to be avoided in the future.
The student bodies highlighted the importance of safeguarding educational institutions and ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
