State celebrates 10th International Day of Yoga

Manipur enthusiastically joined the global community in celebrating the 10th International Day of Yoga today, emphasizing the ancient practice’s profound benefits for physical and mental well-being. The event was observed at Raj Bhavan and various locations across the state, commemorating the United Nations’ recognition of yoga’s therapeutic advantages since 2014.
Governor Anusuiya Uikey led the celebrations at Raj Bhavan, engaging in yoga asanas alongside officers, staff, and security personnel. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” highlighted yoga’s pivotal role in promoting individual health and fostering social harmony. Governor Uikey underscored the importance of integrating yoga into daily routines to uphold overall wellness, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advocacy for its holistic health benefits.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the event as Chief Guest at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, emphasizing yoga’s global significance as a gift from India to the world. Singh recalled the United Nations’ endorsement of International Yoga Day on June 21 annually, following Prime Minister Modi’s influential address at the UN General Assembly. He emphasized that yoga not only enhances physical and mental fitness but also instills societal discipline and health consciousness, evident in its incorporation into educational institutions across Manipur.
During the celebrations, Chief Minister Singh also promoted the nutritional benefits of millets, highlighting their role in bolstering personal health and contributing to sustainability. He affirmed the government’s commitment to raising public awareness about the advantages of millets.
The event drew participation from Cabinet Ministers, MP (Rajya Sabha) Maharajah Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLAs, students, and officials from the Youth Affairs and Sports department, reaffirming Manipur’s dedication to promoting holistic well-being through yoga.
Across Manipur, the 10th International Day of Yoga witnessed widespread participation, organized by various district administrations. In Thoubal, the District Administration spearheaded activities at health facilities, community centers, Gram Panchayats, schools, and healthcare centers. These efforts underscored grassroots initiatives aimed at cultivating a healthier nation and inspiring youth and communities to embrace a sustainable, stress-free lifestyle through yoga.
In Senapati, the celebration at Compassion Children Ministries, Kathikho Karong, Senapati, organized jointly by AYUSH, District Hospital Senapati, NYK Senapati, and CCM Senapati under the District Administration’s auspices, included demonstrations of yoga postures and educational sessions on the significance of yoga by Dr. Sylvia, MO i/c AYUSH wing District Hospital, Senapati, actively involving District Level Officers (DLOs), student volunteers, and school and college students.
