ST Demand Committee stages sit-in-protest

Members of the Schedule tribe Demand Committee today staged sit-in-protest at Thangmeiband Khunthohnabi Community Hall in protest against the Chief Minister reply during question hour in the ongoing state assembly session which he stated that no process in connection with the demand for Meitei / Meetei for inclusion in the Schedule Tribe has not been taken up.
The Chief Minister however said that it is the need of the hour for framing of a mechanism under the constitution of India to protect the Meitei/ Meetei community.
Mention may be made that the Supreme Court of issues noticed to Centre on transfer plea seeking minority status for Hindus in 6 states and 2 UTs including the state of Manipur.
