Days after clash between the Meitei Village defenders and the armed Kuki militants at various periphery areas between Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts and Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts, Security forces continue to engage in fierce gun battle with the armed Kuki militants at the location.
Report said that armed Kuki militants once more started attacking the Manipur police commandoes deployed at Khujumantabi Village at the periphery between the Bishnupur and Churachandpur district. At the same location, Armed Kuki militants attacked and killed three village defenders who were on sentry duty at around midnight of July 1. Later bloody clashes began between the armed Kuki militants and the Meitei village guard. Even the Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh visited the site to take stock of the situation. Following the clash large number of security forces including the Manipur Police Commandoes were deployed.
A source said that at around 7 pm yesterday, the armed Kuki militants once more started firing towards the Police commandos deployed at the Laingoubi area adjacent to Khujumantabi village. The police retaliated and the gunbattle between the two lasted till late afternoon today. Source said that there might be casualties on the side of the Kiki militants group.
On the other hand, gunbattle between the security force and the Kuki militants was also reported from Tingri and Leikinthabi areas in between Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts under Sekmai Police station. This is the same area where Kuki Militants burnt down four houses belonging to the Meiteis on July 3, and following the attack Meitei village defenders too retaliated and clashed lasted till late hours of the following day. Report reaching here said that security has been deployed in the places to control the situation. However, around morning today armed Kuki militants started attacking the security forces deployed in the area close to Tingri village. The gun battle lasted till late today evening. Some armed Kuki militants are reported to have been seriously injured.
At Moidangpok village which is close to the New Keithelmanbi area, armed militants started firing towards the villagers at around 1 pm today. The villagers suspected the militants to have been supported by the Assam Rifles. Samom Tombi Devi, President of Moidangpok Apunba Meira Paibi said that yesterday the AR of New Keithelmanbi came to Moidangpok at about 1 p.m and today at around 1:00 a.m. today, the militants attack the village by firing several rounds of gunshots.
Earlier on May 21 a village volunteer sustained bullet injury after Kuki militants attacked them.
