In a poignant demonstration of anguish and determination, seven women from Manipur embarked on a symbolic journey from Sekmai to the historic Kangla, shaving their heads en route and offering prayers to Lord Ibudhou Pakhnagba for an end to the ongoing crisis gripping the region.
Today marks the completion of one year since the crisis began, and with no resolution in sight, these women took bold action to draw attention to the pressing need for peace. Clad in black attire symbolizing mourning and sorrow, they carried placards bearing messages such as “We Want Peace,” “Protect Territorial Integrity of Manipur,” and “Protect Indigenous People of Manipur,” making their voices heard loud and clear.
For these women, the act of shaving their heads held profound significance, as hair is traditionally viewed as a symbol of beauty for women. By willingly sacrificing this symbol and participating in the rally, they sought to underscore the depth of their distress over the ongoing turmoil. They urged the government to recognize and address the concerns of the mothers of the state who have been deeply affected by the ongoing challenges.
“It’s high time that the authorities concerned take concrete steps towards bringing peace and resolving the crisis at the earliest,” remarked one of the protestors. The gesture of shaving their heads was not just a symbolic act but a poignant plea for peace and stability in Manipur, echoing the sentiments of many affected by the turmoil.
