Imphal, Jan 10:
Khaidem Mani, a Senior Advocate, addressed a press conference held by the “Youth of Manipur,” where he passionately advocated against participating in activities involving illegal weapons, discouraging the solicitation of funds from the public, and rejecting the practice of moral policing. Concerned about instances of physical violence captured on camera, he urged a more constructive and peaceful approach.
“We’ve witnessed individuals resorting to moral policing, engaging in violence, all documented on camera. Many young people are dissatisfied and inclined to intervene. I advised them to appeal and communicate effectively instead of resorting to aggression,” Mani emphasized during the conference.
“Some are asking for money, some are handling arms and ammunition, some are beating people unreasonably,” Khaidem Mani continued, acknowledging the multifaceted challenges faced by the youth. Expressing concern about reports of crimes against women, alcohol-related issues, and general misconduct, he emphasized the imperative of refraining from vigilante justice. “Though we have heard reports of crimes, including those against women, involving alcohol, and creating disturbances, we cannot take the law into our hands by resorting to physical violence. Instances of individuals being beaten and even reports of deaths have surfaced. Such acts of moral policing must cease,” he asserted, advocating for a more lawful and measured response to societal issues.
“Being a senior citizen, I wish people don’t go around carrying weapons, beating, and assaulting individuals. Let it be dealt with by the law,” he continued, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and lawful society.
The press conference unfolds against the backdrop of viral videos circulating on social media, depicting severe beatings and thrashings. In response to these disturbing acts of moral policing, many individuals have raised their voices in opposition, highlighting the urgent need for collective efforts to address and rectify such incidents.
