In a series of operations across Manipur, security forces arrested multiple insurgents and drug smugglers involved in criminal activities, including extortion and illegal drug transportation.
A police statement said that two active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], identified as Wairakpam Jagatchandra Singh alias Theko (31) of Thangtek Teramakhong, Nambol, and Pebam Romen Singh alias Naopung (28) of the same locality, were apprehended from Thangtek Teramakhong under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district yesterday. They were allegedly involved in extortion activities, serving monetary demands to a shop, a doctor, an oil pump, and a private school in Imphal West and Nambol areas. Security personnel also recovered two mobile phones from their possession.
In a separate operation, security forces conducted search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts. The search led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol with a magazine, an automatic single-barrel gun, three No. 36 hand grenades, nine detonators, a .303 light machine gun (LMG) magazine, 144 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, six rounds of .303 live ammunition, three rounds of 9mm live ammunition, two INSAS LMG magazines, one INSAS rifle magazine, a radio wireless set, two bulletproof helmets, two bulletproof jackets, ten anti-riot shells, a blank cartridge, an empty ammunition box, five tube launchers, and two sack bags from Chingkhei Ching (western side) under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.
On the same day, Manipur Police arrested two active cadres of the United National Liberation Front led by Koireng. The arrested individuals, Thongam Ronaldo Singh (26) of Lilong Arapti Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, and Khuraijam Michael Singh (28) of Lilong Arapti Maning Leikai, Imphal East, were allegedly extorting money from trucks carrying goods in Imphal and Bishnupur areas. Police also seized three truck keys, two truck challans, a four-wheeler with its key and smart card, and two mobile phones from their possession.
The Police statement added that, security forces arrested Tayenjam Sanatomba Singh (43) of Chongtham Kona Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, currently residing near Standard College, Kongba, under Irilbung Police Station. A member of the SOREPA militant outfit, he was allegedly involved in serving monetary demands and issuing threats to various government officials. Police seized two mobile handsets and Rs. 1,010 from his possession.
In another major breakthrough, three drug smugglers were arrested while attempting to transport illegal drugs along National Highway-2 (Imphal to Mao) in Imphal West district. Security forces recovered 461 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing approximately 5.5 kg from their possession. Further investigations are underway.
The latest operations mark a significant success in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb insurgency, extortion, and illegal drug trafficking in Manipur.
