BJP Northeast in-charge and Member of Parliament Dr. Sambit Patra is scheduled to visit Imphal tomorrow to hold a crucial meeting with the BJP legislators of Manipur. The visit comes in the backdrop of 21 BJP MLAs urging the party’s central leadership in New Delhi to consider forming a new BJP-led government in the state.
Sources informed Imphal Times that Sambit Patra is expected to engage with the party’s legislators once again regarding the possibility of establishing a new government under fresh leadership. The move follows months of political uncertainty in Manipur, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on February 9.
While BJP legislators continue to push for the installation of a new Chief Minister, sources indicated that the central leadership is hesitant to act swiftly, citing the ongoing crisis that has gripped the state since ethnic violence erupted on May 3, 2023. However, the dynamics could shift if BJP MLAs from the Kuki-Zo community extend their support to the demand for a new government.
Despite President’s Rule, little change has been seen on the ground, and the constitutional machinery in the state remains largely dysfunctional. Public frustration is growing, with many now blaming the BJP legislators for failing to form a new government despite having the numbers.
According to sources, some of the BJP MLAs who had been camping in Delhi have returned to Imphal in anticipation of Patra’s visit. His discussions with the legislators are expected to be critical in determining the next political move for the party in the strife-torn state.
