New Delhi, Dec 5:
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of aligning with foreign entities allegedly working against India’s interests. Patra made these remarks during a press briefing, referencing the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a global investigative journalism platform, and its alleged connections to billionaire philanthropist George Soros.
Patra claimed that OCCRP is backed by the Open Society Foundations, a major philanthropic organization founded by Soros. “OCCRP is a global media agency with a vast readership, influencing millions of people worldwide. The Open Society Foundations, which fund OCCRP, are controlled by George Soros. These agencies, naturally, function in the interest of their funders,” Patra said.
Connecting Rahul Gandhi to these allegations, Patra stated, “The Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, is betraying the entire country. OCCRP dictates, and Rahul Gandhi follows. This is not just political opposition; it is a betrayal of national interests.”
The BJP leader’s comments come amid an escalating war of words between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with both sides accusing each other of compromising national integrity. Patra further alleged that foreign-funded organizations and their narratives are being weaponized by the opposition to destabilize India.
“George Soros has openly declared his intent to interfere in India’s political affairs. Rahul Gandhi aligning with such forces raises serious questions about his priorities and his commitment to the nation’s sovereignty,” Patra added.
The Congress party has yet to respond directly to these allegations, but its leaders have previously dismissed such claims as diversionary tactics by the BJP to avoid accountability on pressing domestic issues, including unemployment, inflation, and communal tensions.
This accusation adds a new dimension to the ongoing political battle between the BJP and Congress, with foreign influence and national loyalty emerging as central themes in their confrontations. The BJP has consistently positioned itself as a defender of India’s sovereignty, while accusing the Congress of undermining national interests through alleged collaborations with external entities.
As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how both parties will navigate this charged narrative, particularly as the country gears up for the upcoming general elections.
