The South Asian Institute of Rural and Agricultural Management, located in Langjing Achouba, Imphal West, marked International Mother Language Day at its conference hall on February 21, 2024. The event was graced by esteemed guests including Prof. H.S.S. Shekhar Sharma, Director, serving as the Chief Guest, Dr. L. Brojendra Singh, Faculty of Horticulture, as President, and Dr. N. Sanatomba Singh from the Department of Manipuri, Manipur University, who was the distinguished special guest.
Prof. H.S.S. Shekhar Sharma commenced the event with a brief address, shedding light on the significance of International Mother Language Day-2024. Following this, Prof. Naorem Sanatomba Singh elaborated on why this day falls on February 21st and elucidated on UNESCO’s commemoration, stressing the importance of linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.
Dr. L. Brojendra Singh delved into the cultural importance of mother languages, emphasizing their pivotal role in heritage preservation and community cohesion. As a token of recognition for academic excellence, prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners of a short story competition, celebrating the intellectual prowess of the students.
The celebration not only showcased the linguistic diversity within the college community but also fostered unity and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage represented by each language. Hajarimayum Sadhana, Convenor of the Language Committee Cell of SAIRAM, Imphal, orchestrated the event, which concluded with the announcement of the establishment of a Language Cell in SAIRAM.
A total of 63 individuals, including teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and students, participated in the program, making it a resounding success.
