The Right to Information (RTI) Week 2024, which has been celebrated across the country this October to promote transparency and awareness of the RTI Act, 2005, has successfully concluded in Manipur. The Manipur Information Commission led the celebration with a series of events aimed at popularizing the RTI Act and raising mass awareness among stakeholders.
The closing function of RTI Week was held today at 1:00 PM at the Press Club in Majorkhul, Imphal. Dinganglung Gangmei (Dipu), Chairman of the Hill Area Committee, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. Paonam Gunindro Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture, and Oinam Sunil Singh, former State Chief Information Commissioner (i/c), were Guests of Honour, while Koijam Radhashyam Singh, the State Chief Information Commissioner, presided over the ceremony.
Earlier in the week, the RTI Week began with an opening ceremony on October 5, 2024, at the Auditorium Hall of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR). Other key events included a State-Level Painting Competition held on October 7, 2024, at the Manipur University of Culture, and a District Outreach Programme on October 8, 2024, at the Directorate of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD & PR).
The RTI Week celebrations aimed to foster greater understanding of the RTI Act among the general public, encouraging them to utilize their right to access information and ensure transparency in governance. The week’s events successfully engaged various stakeholders, and today’s closing ceremony marked the culmination of these efforts with a call for continued promotion of transparency and accountability in public administration.
Prize were distributed to the winner of the painting competition and all the participants of the Painting Competition are also honoured with a certificate of participation in the Closing Ceremony.
