Ukhrul, May 22:
The third day of the 5th State Level Shirui Lily Festival 2025 came alive with vibrant cultural displays, sporting events, and a resounding call for peace through a unique Peace Bike Rally that captivated residents and visitors alike.
One of the highlights of the day was the Peace Bike Rally, which kicked off early in the morning from the iconic Bakshi Ground. With more than 90 passionate bikers revving up their engines for a cause greater than themselves, the rally wound its way through the scenic town of Ukhrul and culminated at Jorcheng Zero Point, the bikers’ designated base camp.
More than just a thrilling ride, the rally served as a symbolic call for peace in the strife-affected state of Manipur. Riders from across the state were joined by participants from distant places like Kerala, Goa, Kolkata, and Karbi Anglong in Assam, turning the event into a true ambassadorial mission of unity. With roaring engines and fluttering peace flags, the bikers delivered a powerful message—peace is possible, and it begins with solidarity.
At the heart of the celebration remains the rare and enchanting Shirui Lily, which has bloomed in greater numbers this year, delighting tourists and locals alike. The peak of Shirui Kashong witnessed streams of visitors, both young and old, trekking the verdant hills to glimpse the state flower in its natural glory. Various cultural and ecological programs were simultaneously held at the site to educate and engage the public.
Meanwhile, at the Vangayan Heritage Site in Shirui Village and the festival’s main venue at the Ukhrul headquarters ground, festivities continued in full swing. However, a somber note was struck due to an unfortunate incident involving the DIPR-sponsored journalist team from Imphal, who faced disturbances at Gwalthapi. The incident cast a shadow over the festival’s tourism potential, slightly reducing the number of visitors compared to previous editions.
Adding a thrilling local flavor to the day’s celebrations was the much-anticipated Shirui Lily Grand Prix, a daring race of traditional wooden bikes handcrafted by locals. This unique indigenous sport demands not only strength and agility but also courage, as participants navigate steep slopes on bikes made entirely from wood—a nod to Ukhrul’s cultural heritage and inventiveness.
With three days down, the Shirui Lily Festival continues to bloom with pride, peace, and people’s passion.
