In light of the recent nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases and confirmation of a fresh positive case in Manipur, the Emergency COVID-19 Management Committee of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal convened to review the institution’s preparedness and enforce preventive measures.
As per national health updates, active COVID-19 cases in India have crossed 7,154, with three new deaths reported on Thursday. The RIMS committee, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, called for heightened vigilance and immediate preventive steps to avoid further transmission.
To protect patients, healthcare workers, and visitors, RIMS has made the wearing of face masks mandatory for all individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms and their attendants within the hospital premises. In addition, all patients and visitors — symptomatic or not — have been strongly encouraged to wear masks to minimize the risk of infection.
The hospital administration has also urged the public to adopt essential hygiene practices. People have been advised to maintain strict hand hygiene by frequently washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
Those experiencing symptoms associated with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue have been encouraged to seek timely medical consultation.
While routine COVID-19 testing will not be conducted, RIMS officials stated that tests will be carried out for individuals showing symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) or when deemed necessary by attending physicians.
RIMS further assured that it will continue to follow the latest guidelines issued by the State Health Department. The institution reiterated that the safety of patients, medical personnel, and the broader community remains its top priority, and it called for public cooperation in adhering to the recommended measures for the collective well-being of all.
