RIMS observes World Cancer Day 2025

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in association with the Department of Radiation Oncology, today observed World Cancer Day 2025 at the General OPD Block, RIMS Hospital, Imphal under Swachhta Action Plan 2024-25. The event was held on the theme, “United by Unique”, emphasizes the collective global efforts to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.
“The program was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, as the Chief Guest, along with Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, as the President, and Prof. Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academic), RIMS, Imphal, and Prof. Y. Sobita Devi, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department, RIMS, Imphal, as Guests of Honour.”
“Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, Imphal, emphasized the institution’s commitment to strengthening cancer care services, advancing research, and ensuring access to quality treatment for all patients. He urged the public to adopt healthier lifestyles and support cancer patients with compassion and solidarity. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and lifestyle modifications in reducing the burden of cancer in society.”He also revealed that a proposal to establish a state-of-the-art 150-bedded cancer hospital has received approval from the Government of India. While the project is expected to take 4 to 5 years to complete, it is poised to become the largest cancer hospital in the Northeast, marking a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare landscape.
During the observance, Cancer survivors were felicitated for their resilience, inspiring patients and families. The program saw active participation from Principal of College of Nursing, RIMS, Imphal, HODs, Nursing official, staff and students of RIMS, Imphal and Public.
