In a significant development, seventy cards of Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PM-JAM) health cards were distributed to rural poor households at DRDA, Mini-secretariat, Ukhrul on Monday.
A simple yet significant program was organised by MLA Qr. Ram Muivah, IAS (Retd.) of Ukhrul Assembly constituency as the first phase.
Despite the government’s efforts to implement the AB PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) as a flagship healthcare program, a significant portion of the rural community in Manipur continues to face difficulties in accessing quality healthcare. Many had remained excluded from the benefits of this scheme.
Having learned the situation Ram Muivah swiftly acted to address this issue by initiating a drive to help underprivileged individuals and households in Ukhrul assembly constituency access the benefits of the AB PM-JAY scheme. Thanks to his initiative, more than a thousand impoverished families have now been enrolled in this flagship healthcare scheme.
Speaking at the event, MLA Ram Muivah highlighted the importance of this scheme in uplifting the healthcare conditions of individuals and families living in poverty. He shared his own experiences of seeing poor families struggling with the financial burdens of getting proper medical treatment for their members.
“As a people’s representative, I did my level best to extend whatever assistance possible for such families though I may not gratified at all but with such a good scheme in place, there is no need for them to continue to struggle. So, I would like to encourage all eligible individuals and households to get enrolled and avail the benefits of the AB PM-JAY scheme”, Ram Muivah said.
The MLA further stated that he initiated the drive to make the inhabitants of his constituency aware of the scheme and help them get enrolled. “This drive has so far covered over 1000 families and individuals, and the 70 beneficiaries who received their health cards at the distribution function were only from the district headquarters as the first phase of distribution,” he informed.
And the remaining beneficiaries from the interior villages will be provided with their health cards in the second phase where around 1000 PM-JAY cards for Ukl 44 A/C are on the pipeline, Ram adds.
It is pertinent to mention that AB PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) is a flagship healthcare scheme introduced by the government with the aim of providing financial assistance to impoverished households for their medical treatment.
This initiative by MLA Ram Muivah is a much-needed step towards ensuring better healthcare facilities for the people of Ukhrul, especially those who are left out of the health scheme and unable to afford medical treatment.
Amongst others, the function was also attended by Qrl Zuringla Kengoo, DC, Ukhrul, and ADC/ADM Qrl. Nimmi Khamrang and well-wishers.
