Protest in Kangpokpi over killing of three armed Kukis in Thowai; demand to reimpose

Hundreds of women staged demonstrations since Friday over the killing of three armed Kukis at Thowai village, Kamjong district by unknown miscreants. Protesters demanded to deploy Assam Rifles in Kuki areas and reimpose the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (ASFPA) in the entire state.
The three deceased were identified as Jamkhogin Haokip (26), Thangkhokai Haokip (35), Hollenson Baite (24). The dead bodies were later on taken back by the respective families. There was a brief disruption along Ukhrul-Imphal Road on Friday. However, the situation was restored to normalcy with the central armed forces patrolling the road. Further, it is reported that there is no report of any tension in either Ukhrul and Kamjong District.
It may be mentioned that the Central government removed the disturbed area tag from 15 police stations of Manipur on April 1, 2022. In total, 19 police stations in seven districts of Manipur have been removed from the disturbed area under AFSPA. Those 15 police stations are Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Sekmai, Lamshang, Patsoi, Porompat, Heigang, Leimakhong, Lamlai, Irilbung, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching and Jiribam of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Kakching and Jiribam districts were removed.
