Prof. N. Sanajaoba remembered on 14th Death Anniversary

Fitting tribute was paid to Professor N. Sanajaoba on his 14th death anniversary at the Ojha Sanajaoba Memorial complex at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai in Imphal East today.
People from various sections of the society paid floral tribute to the portrait of the late Professor, who had advocated whole his life for the cause of the Manipur Nation and the integrity of the people of the state as well as its political boundary of the erstwhile nation during his lifetimes.
“Professor N. Sanajaoba is an institution who had advocated the cause of the integrity of the state with facts and records in whole his lifetime”, said the president of the Ojha Sanajaoba Memorial Trust told to media persons. No formal function was organized today in view of the prevailing situation happening in the state. However, eminent persons and CSO leaders from across the state paid floral tribute to the portrait of the departed souls at his memorial complex at Lairikyengbam Leikai here in Imphal.
Born on December 30, 1946, Sanajaoba began his student life as an activist fighting against exploitation and oppression. He was one of the leaders spearheading the 27th August Movement in 1965, which led to the formation of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU).
Late Sanajaoba was a professor of Law at Guwahati University, Assam when he left for his heavenly abode due to an illness on this day in 2009.
During his short life span, he authored and edited about twenty books and contributed several articles on contemporary issues of Manipur and the issue of human rights and international humanitarian laws in several reputed local, national, and international journals and newspapers.
Some of the important books authored and edited by him are; Manipur Past and Present (Vol I to IV), Manipur Treaties and Documents, Right of the Oppressed Nations, Current Legal Essays, and Manipur Puwari: Kunmathoisuba Chahi Cha etc.
Prof. Sanajaoba was the first to receive PhD in Law from Gauhati University by working independently.
He edited the quarterly journal Matamgee Khongthang, Meitei Culture and Civilization.
He completed his postgraduate in Law from Poona University.
