Imphal, Jan 13:

The premiere show of the Manipuri feature film “Yahouthengba Khoimu,” presented by Jaideep Memorial Foundation, Imphal, and produced under the banner of Ipak Films Production, took place at the Muktadhara Auditorium in New Delhi. The film, based on a story by Dr. RK Nayansana and directed by Rakesh Naorem, was showcased to an audience of Meitei community members and film enthusiasts in Delhi.
The event featured a distinguished presidium comprising Prof. Shanta Laishram of the Mathematics Department, Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi; child environment activist Licypriya Kangujam; World Funaba Federation Founder and President Dr. Ranbir Singh Laishram; and the film’s director, Rakesh Naorem.
Speaking at the event, Licypriya Kangujam expressed her delight at being invited to the premiere. She stated, “I am truly happy to be part of the premiere of Yahouthengba Khoimu, directed by Rakesh Naorem. This film has the potential to elevate Manipuri cinema on an international stage. I look forward to seeing more creative works like this from the Manipuri film industry.”
Director Rakesh Naorem highlighted the film’s journey, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Manipuri films to a wider audience. He remarked, “It is a proud moment to present Yahouthengba Khoimu through this special premiere in Delhi for the Meitei community and beyond. We plan to organize screenings in Tripura, Assam, Bangalore, and Hyderabad to share this work with more audiences.”
Naorem further noted the societal impact of films, stressing that audiences should prioritize watching meaningful productions rather than consuming superficial content on YouTube and social media. “Films are a reflection of society and its people. Over time, audiences have become more discerning. Supporting meaningful films will foster cultural and social awareness,” he added.
The film features performances by Avi Khundrakpam, Ithoi Oinam, and Ratana Kshetrimayum, with Lalitabi, Purneshwari, Surjit, and others in supporting roles. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Lhwarakpam Bishwamitra, with Sushil Yumlembam and Muhkndro Kams handling cinematography and editing.
“Yahouthengba Khoimu” had its tribute screening on December 31, 2024, at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS). This was followed by screenings at the Library and Information Centre in Kakching on January 4 and 5, and special showings for IDPs. The film officially released at the MSFDS Auditorium on January 9, 2025.
The premiere in Delhi was attended by professionals, students, and members of the Manipuri diaspora, who appreciated the film’s compelling narrative and cultural significance.
