Proscribed group, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREEPAK) greeted best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Shajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba which falls on Saturday, 21st April.
Extending wishes on the occasion, a press statement signed by Leibak Ngakpa Luwang, Assistant Secretary, Publicity and Propaganda, PREEPAK said that the ritual which is being celebrated every year has been able to shape the state in bringing a prosperous state rich with culture, tradition and economy. He hoped the ritual will strengthen the relationship of all the people of the state anticipating development for the society.
Speaking about the history of Cheiraoba, LeibakNgakpa further stated that the ritual was first observed during the reign of the king Leinung Lonja Pakhangba and afterwards the other kings adapted the ritual with some modification. Most importantly, he added that the ritual brought development in the calendar-months of Kanglei astrology.
He added that in the past few years the people of the state were found celebrating more of Hindu Cheiraoba then Kanglei Cheiraoba due to influence of the non Manipuri religion which gave a huge impact to the cultural, economic and administrative system of the state. He further said that it is very much important to preserve the tradition and culture of Kanglei people and thus the ritual of Kanglei Cheiraoba should be celebrated in its traditional way.
