Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a moment to inquire about the flood-like situation in Delhi caused by the overflowing Yamuna river during his visit to France. In a telephonic conversation with Home Minister Amit Shah, the Prime Minister sought an update on the current conditions and received information regarding the expected receding of water levels in the next 24 hours.
The Office of the Home Minister tweeted, “PM @narendramodi ji spoke to Union Home Minister @AmitShah over the flood-like situation in parts of Delhi because of the rising water level of the Yamuna river.” Amit Shah, accompanied by Delhi Lieutenant Governor, briefed PM Modi on the situation and assured him that the water levels are anticipated to decrease within the next day. They also emphasized that they are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Additionally, an ample number of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to conduct rescue and relief operations, providing aid to those in need.
It is noteworthy that the flooding caused by the surging Yamuna river has resulted in water entering several parts of Delhi. This has severely disrupted normal life, leading authorities to temporarily close all schools and colleges until July 16. The entry of heavy goods vehicles involved in non-essential services has also been prohibited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while in France to attend the Bastille Day celebration, took note of the situation in Delhi. Despite his overseas commitments, he remained informed about the developments and ongoing efforts to mitigate the effects of the flooding.
During his visit, PM Modi made significant announcements to strengthen bilateral ties between India and France. Notably, he unveiled a decision to grant five-year student visas to Indian students upon completion of their education in France. Furthermore, plans to enable Indians to use Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for transactions in France were announced. The Prime Minister also revealed intentions to open a new consulate, further enhancing diplomatic relations between the two nations.
As Delhi continues to grapple with the aftermath of the flooding, the prompt attention given by Prime Minister Modi signifies the government’s commitment to addressing the situation and providing necessary assistance to affected residents. The deployment of NDRF teams and ongoing monitoring efforts demonstrate a coordinated response to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
