Plastic bottle bank distribution and awareness program held at Sendra

A special program jointly organized by the Sendra Youth Club (SYC) and the Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society Ltd. (LLTDCSL), Sendra, was successfully held today at the prime tourist destination of Sendra. The event focused on the distribution of 10 Plastic Bottle Banks and an awareness campaign on plastic and solid waste management at this ecologically sensitive and culturally significant site.
The initiative was sponsored by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, and graced by the august presence of key dignitaries including: Dr. T. Brajakumar, Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change (Chief Guest) Ng. Sanajaoba Meitei,  Project Director, Loktak Development Authority (Guest of Honour) Dr. W. Roshan, Member Secretary, Manipur Pollution Control Board (Special Invitee) Th. Joykumar, Proprietor, Likla Industries (President of the function) Moirangthem Ibosana Singh, Advisor, Sendra Youth Club
Kh. Budha, Consultant of the Clean & Green Sendra, Healthy Village 2.0 initiative, highlighted the sustained efforts of the youth and volunteers in managing plastic and solid waste. He presented a statistical overview of plastic waste generated at the tourist site, stressing the urgent need for structured waste management solutions.
In his keynote address, Dr. T. Brajakumar stated that this is the first-of-its-kind installation of Plastic Bottle Banks at Sendra, and praised the relentless efforts of Sendra’s youth and womenfolk. He assured continued technical and financial support from the department and committed to proposing a long-term waste management policy to the Government of Manipur.
Ng. Sanajaoba Meitei stressed the vital role of community responsibility in maintaining a clean, healthy environment around Loktak Lake. He emphasized that scientific and systematic waste management will not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also support the conservation of Loktak Ema, the lifeline of the region.
Dr. W. Roshan raised concerns over the health and environmental hazards caused by burning plastic waste and urged proper disposal of both solid and liquid waste in localities.
Th. Joykumar, as a channel partner for recycling, encouraged the systematic storage of plastic waste, underlining the concept of turning “waste into wealth” through responsible practices. He reaffirmed Likla Industries’ commitment to purchasing recyclable plastic.
M. Ibosana concluded with an appeal to the concerned authorities to recognize and support the environmental efforts of youths in Sendra and similar communities across the state.
The event was well-attended by senior officials from various departments, youth groups, sportspersons, Meira Paibis, market women, and concerned citizens, with a total audience of around 120 participants
The joint initiative not only marks a step forward in tackling plastic pollution but also showcases the power of community-driven environmental stewardship.
