Piima Health Care refutes allegations of Kidney failure after Childbirth

Imphal, Sept 19:

Authorities at Piima Health Care, Thoubal, have refuted recent allegations made by Keidongbam Purnima from Wangbal Maning Leikai, Thoubal, claiming that both her kidneys failed following childbirth at the hospital. In a press briefing, hospital officials described the allegations as baseless, stating that Purnima was discharged without any complications after delivering her baby and also revealed that the patient party had demanded Rs. 30 lakhs from the hospital and doctors without verifying the facts to end the matter.
M. Arun, Deputy General Manager of Piima Health Care, clarified during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club that Purnima was not a regular patient at the hospital. She was brought in as an emergency case by her husband, Keidongbam Nageshor, on August 14 for childbirth. Though the hospital’s gynecologist was on leave, another doctor was arranged on humanitarian grounds at the husband’s request to perform the delivery. According to Arun, there were no complications following the procedure, and claims of swelling in Purnima’s feet and hands were unfounded.
Arun further explained that after Purnima complained of reduced urine output on August 15, the hospital advised conducting a Kidney Function Test (KFT), which the family declined. Instead, they requested her discharge, which was granted the following day. He added that had the KFT been performed, the nature of her condition could have been better understood.
Arun also cited information from the nephrologist currently treating Purnima at JNIMS, who confirmed that her kidney failure was unrelated to childbirth. He urged the public not to threaten doctors or hospital staff who are dedicated to saving lives and called for support in uncovering the truth behind the allegations.
