Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry Department honoured with two Prestigious National Awards

The Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry at the Dental College, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, Manipur, has been recognized with two prestigious national awards for its outstanding efforts in promoting oral health and community outreach.
During the month-long celebration of World Oral Health Day (March 20 to April 20, 2024), organized by the Indian Society of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, the department received the 1st Consolation Prize at the national level. The event, themed “Be proud of your mouth, A happy mouth… A happy body,” highlighted the department’s extensive efforts in raising oral health awareness. Initiatives included a Cyclothon, free dental camps in schools and communities, teacher training programs, oral health quizzes, and creative competitions like painting and slogan writing. Dr. Wairokpam Bhoomika Devi, Head of the Department, also represented the department in a radio program on Akashvani Imphal, where she emphasized the importance of oral health for overall well-being. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and appreciation certificates.
The department was also awarded the 1st Prize for its participation in the Nanhi Muskan Project 2024, a month-and-a-half-long initiative (July 15 to August 31, 2024) aimed at providing healthcare services to underprivileged children. In collaboration with organizations such as the Zonal Education Office, the project provided free dental check-ups, pediatric, eye, and ENT services, as well as free medicines and educational materials.
Additionally, the project featured creative workshops in art, pottery, and storytelling to promote holistic development. Dr. Wairokpam received the award on behalf of the department during the Annual National Conference in Bangalore on September 26, 2024.
