In an effort to enhance the knowledge of the media fraternity in climate change reporting and make more understanding of climate facts through strengthening networks, a one day state level online interaction programme for the media fellow recipients on climate change reporting II was held today.
The online interaction was organised by the Media Working Group on Climate Change, Media Resource Center, Manipur and Manipur State Climate Change Cell, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change at the conference hall of directorate of environment at Porompat in Imphal.
Advisor Dr Nisha Mendiratta of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India was the speaker of the day’s interaction programme.
In her talk, Dr Nisha who is the Head of Women Scientists Programme and Climate Change Programme focussed more on Global-national-regional climate policy,Climate Adaptation programmes in Himalayan States and Needs for strengthening knowledge network.
The DST adviser who has more than thirty years of experience in the research and applied fields of Science, also responded to a number of questions by state journalists during the interaction programme.
According to Directorate of Environment and Climate Change officials, the basic idea of the day’s programme is to build the capacity of the media fellow recipients and intending applicants/young journalists for the State level Media Fellowship Programme on Climate Change Reporting. After all it also targets to make more understanding of climate facts and reporting in simple common language.
More than 50 journalists, media fellow recipients,editors and scientists from State climate Change Cell and Manipur University participated in the online interaction.
It may be mentioned that altogether 19 journalists of the state belonging to various media organisations were awarded the state level media fellowship programmes on climate change reporting under the sponsorship of the
Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.The department is also planning to notify the fellow programme for the next year within a day or two.
