Nupi Samaj observes 50th Foundation Day, reaffirms stand against drug menace

The All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) today celebrated its 50th Foundation Day at the Iroisemba Community Hall in Imphal West, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to social reform and the fight against illicit drugs.
The observance was graced by several eminent figures, including Thokchom Ongbi Ramani Devi, President of Nupi Samaj; Lourembam Nganbi Devi of Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup (AMKIL); Yambem Ongbi Momon Leima, President of All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lup; Soujam Ibemnungshi Leima, President of Iroishemba Lourembam Leikai Nishabandh Association; and YK Dhiren, President of the United Committee Manipur (UCM).
Speaking at the event, Thokchom Ongbi Ramani Devi reflected on the five decades of Nupi Samaj’s journey, especially its role in addressing social evils. She expressed concern over how society has deteriorated due to the widespread impact of illicit drug use, stating that it was this menace that compelled women to take a stand and launch a collective movement for reform.
She also recalled the emergence of the Meira Paibi movement, which arose in response to arbitrary actions by security forces, including the detention of youths without due explanation. Ramani Devi stated that the courage shown by women during such difficult times laid the foundation for a strong, community-driven resistance against injustice and social decay.
