Names of IDPs removed from relief camp - IDPs

IT News
Imphal, March 21:

Fresh tensions have erupted after the names of several Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staying at the Phayeng High School Relief Camp were reportedly removed from the official IDP list without resettlement. The affected individuals, who were forced to flee their homes in Kangchup following the ethnic violence in June 2023, have strongly questioned the authorities over the removal of their names before they have been allowed to return to their respective houses.
The removal of these names comes after a similar incident last month when 49 IDPs staying at Kamakhya Pemton College were abruptly delisted by the district administration, sparking widespread protests. The latest removal of names from the Phayeng High School camp has only intensified the growing frustration among the displaced families, who fear being abandoned without any proper rehabilitation.
Many of the IDPs had been living in extreme hardship for nearly two years, unable to return to their homes in Kangchup, which remains heavily guarded by central paramilitary forces. Reports indicate that houses destroyed during the conflict, including those damaged by drone bombings and arson by Kuki militants, are now being reconstructed. However, the displaced individuals argue that they are being denied access to their own homes, making the removal of their names from the relief list even more questionable.
The affected IDPs have demanded an immediate explanation from the authorities regarding their removal from the list and have insisted that their resettlement should be prioritized before any administrative decisions are taken. Protests are likely to escalate if the issue remains unresolved, with displaced families warning of intensified agitation until they are assured a safe return to their homes.
