MPCC slams BJP for misleading statements by BJP Spokesperson

Imphal, Feb 5:

The Working President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Kh. Debabrata, today launched a sharp criticism against the BJP spokesperson for misleading the public regarding the speech delivered by Congress MP Akoijam Bimol in the Lok Sabha while discussing the President’s speech.
The MPCC Vice President also lambasted BJP Manipur Pradesh spokespersons M. Suresh and K. Sarat for falsely claiming that Article 355 is enforced in Manipur. He pointed out that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had stated in the last Assembly session—while responding to a question raised by Deputy CLP Leader K. Ranjit—that Article 355 is not enforced in the state. Taking strong exception to the BJP spokespersons’ claims, the MPCC demanded a clarification from either the Chief Minister or the BJP Manipur Pradesh on who is telling the truth. If the BJP spokespersons’ statement is correct, Debabrata asserted, then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had misled the state Assembly.
Regarding Akoijam Bimol’s statement in the Lok Sabha, Debabrata criticized the BJP for irrelevantly bringing up the issue where Bimol allegedly said that “the state is nurturing armed groups.” He clarified that the statement had nothing to do with the village defenders. “The Congress Party has always urged the government to protect village defenders by passing a law,” the Vice President said, reminding the public of Deputy CLP Leader K. Ranjit’s speech during the last Assembly session. He further recalled that K. Ranjit had urged the state government to pass a law granting amnesty to village defenders who had procured arms for protecting their villages.
Debabrata further stated that during the discussion on the President’s speech in Parliament, MP Akoijam Bimol raised concerns over the deprivation of people’s rights in Manipur, citing violations of constitutional provisions. Bimol highlighted issues related to the fundamental rights of the people, the plight of 60,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in relief camps, and the disappearance of Kamal Babu inside the largest Indian Army camp at Leimakhong.
Debabrata added that as a parliamentarian, Akoijam Bimol exposed the fascist tendencies of the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, even drawing a comparison between Modi and Hitler’s Nazi regime.
