MPCC chief welcomes dialogue but criticizes key absences in crucial meeting

IT News
Imphal, Oct 16:

Manipur Congress Chief K Meghachandra has welcomed the dialogue between legislators regarding the ongoing crisis in the state but highlighted critical flaws in the meeting’s organization. He pointed out that the absence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren Singh in such important discussions was a “serious lapse.”
Meghachandra further emphasized that for the talks to be genuinely productive, the inclusion of opposition members and civil society organizations (CSOs) was essential. “The absence of key figures like Amit Shah and N. Biren Singh shows the government’s incomplete approach to addressing the crisis. Yet, as the saying goes, ‘better late than never,’” he remarked.
The meeting, although seen as a positive step, has raised concerns about the government’s sincerity in seeking a lasting political solution to the violence that has gripped Manipur since May 2023. The exclusion of critical stakeholders and prominent leaders has cast doubt on the effectiveness of this initiative in bringing meaningful peace to the troubled state. Many political figures and civil society members are questioning whether the government’s strategy can resolve the deep-rooted tensions that have escalated over the past year.
