Feeling humiliated and unable to bear the frustration while rendering service for the people as an MLA by appointing him a namesake Chairman of the State Tourism Corporation Limited Manipur, MLA Karam Shyam exposed a series of autocratic characters of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh before tendering his resignation from the Chairman post. The MLA however said that he will continue to serve the people and will not part the party.
In his Facebook post, Karam Shyam said that due to huge amount of deficit, the government is not In a position to pay pensions, gratuity, commutation and leave salaries for the senior citizen.
Karam Shyam seems to be uploading his post from outside Manipur. When he directly exposed the autocratic character of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, MLA Radheshyam narrated a story of how a lion tricks a deer who used to help him, and later ate her flesh. The story mentioned nothing about the political development or his anger toward the CM but somehow it talks about how the ruler betrayed its loyal supporters.
In the video post uploaded on social media, Karam Shyam said that when he was handed over the appointment letter of the Chairman Tourism Corporation Manipur by another MLA colleague MLA Rajen, he first visited his office and enquired about the condition of the office.
There were around 15 staff, some casual and some contract, and some officers on deputation. The staff and officers of the State Tourism Corporation prepared project for the enhancement of the Tourism sectors and after getting approval works that are estimated over Rs. 1000 and 1000s of crore have been taken up. However, works that are supposed to be taken up by the Tourism Corporation were/are handed over to work agencies like Police Housing, and those works were not properly constructed.
“Projects for tourism development were prepared by the Tourism staff and pursued the central government for approval and after getting approval the works are handed over to some specific work agency”, Kram Shyam said.
Tourism corporation in India is one of the most powerful section, however, in Manipur, the status has been belittled and the handling of project work construction has never been consulted to the Chairman of the corporation.
Karam Shyam said that as the Tourism Corporation has its engineers and staff he requested the Chief Minister to implement the work by the Tourism Corporation, however, the proposal was rejected.
In the last Sangai Festival which was conducted at 14 different places, I have never been let known about it. Whether it may be of financial matter or construction, the Tourism department authorities including me have never been let known.
The attitude of the government under the CM made me a useless and meaningless chairman.
Karam Shyam’s stories of being humiliated do not end here. He said that with an aim to promote the Sangai Festival he along with 800 youths from the state staged a cycle rally from Palace Compound to Moirang and then to Sangai Ethnic Park at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district. The total cost for the arrangement including breakfast, T-Shirt, etc. is Rs. 7,00,000/-. Shyam said already Rs. 3,00,000/- was paid in advance and when asked to pay the remaining Rs. 4 lakhs by himself, the Chief Minister wrote “regretted”.
“Wonderful” – this is what Karam Shyam told after narrating the incident.
Karam Shyam also said that he had been time and again humiliated even during the Sangai Festival opening ceremony.
“I was not even provided a seat and later on another day, I was not allowed to speak even though I was attending as the Guest of Honor.
