Fresh tension erupted in the border town Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur early today morning after heavily armed militants shielded by a mob started burning houses. State police force stationed at Moreh disperse the mob however after the mob disperse heavily armed militants started firing toward the state police force. A fierce gun battle between the militants and the state police took place till late hours today.
State police team engaging in the gunbattle while talking to Imphal Times expressed unhappiness over the attitude of the central forces including the Assam Rifles stating that the State Police team will fight the militants till their last blood to protect the land.
Report reaching here said that at around 9.30 am today, a large number of people gathered at the Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh in Tengnoupal district amid the ongoing tensions and started burning houses and other constructions. The mob also burnt the Forest office in the presence of a large number of Central forces including the Assam Rifles. State police deployed in the border town intervened and disperse the mob using tear gas shells. After the civilian mob were dispersed, heavily armed militants started firing towards the state police force and the encounter between the militants and the state police continue till now at the time of filing this report. There is no report of any casualty on the side of the state police, however, sources said that at least 4 (four) of the militants died in the gunfight.
Source with the Imphal Times said that a large number of armed militants from the Myanmar side are among those armed militants attacking the state police.
At present troops of 5 Assam Rifles, and BSF are deployed in the border town.
