Ukhrul, Dec 8:

UKHRUL is buzzing with excitement as Meiphung Productions prepares to premiere its latest and most ambitious film to date, ‘MASHUNWO’ (Justice) an action-packed thriller shot in 4K resolution. The much-anticipated premiere is scheduled for December 13 at the Town Hall, Ukhrul, where fans will witness a gripping story woven around pressing social issues in the region.
In a press conference held on Saturday, Eno. Aning Ruivah, the CEO of Meiphung Productions, shared that Mashunwo marks the production house’s eighth film and is its most expensive project so far, with a budget ranging from ¹ 15-20 lakhs. This includes the fees for the talented female lead, Phylayung Jajo, who is set to captivate audiences with her powerful performance.
Ruivah revealed that the film was shot across diverse locations, including Mumbai, Imphal, and Ukhrul. These locations provided a dynamic backdrop for the story, which delves into Ukhrul’s social challenges such as drugs, scams,flesh trade,crime and corruption. The narrative follows a secret agent who uncovers hidden truths and fights for justice, resonating with the film’s title, Mashunwo, which means “justice.”
A Star-Studded Production
Eli. Semma Ks. Awungshi, COO and director of Mashunwo, shared her immense satisfaction with the film’s completion. “The entire production was wrapped up in just three months, a record-breaking achievement for Meiphung Productions,” she said with pride.
Eli. Philayung Jajo takes the lead role in the film, supported by a diverse cast that brings unique perspectives to the story. Interestingly, the film breaks traditional norms by not featuring a male lead but instead focusing on supporting characters who enhance the narrative’s depth and moral complexity.
The talented cast and crew include:
* Cinematographers: Sorenzan Vashum, assisted by Akui Zings and Wurngam Ruivah
* Directors: Seema Ka Awungshi and Makanmi Ramror
* Writer: Makanmi Ramror
* Supporting Actors: Wunglengsing Longleng, Amung Siro, and Chanshim Zimik
* Makeup Artist: Astique Siro
* Costume Designer: Yaithingchon Ronra
The production’s attention to detail, combined with its high production values, promises to deliver a cinematic experience unlike any other seen in the Tangkhul community.
A Reflection of Society
At its core, ‘Mashunwo’ tackles real-world issues plaguing Ukhrul, shining a light on the dark realities of drug abuse, criminal activity, and moral decay. The film’s “Secret Agent” protagonist serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that justice can prevail even in the face of overwhelming adversity. This relatable storyline, coupled with its high-octane action sequences, is expected to resonate deeply with audiences.
Ticket Sales Skyrocket
Meiphung Productions reported that 50% of the tickets for the December 13 premiere were sold within just three days of their release. This unprecedented demand underscores the anticipation surrounding the film and the loyal following that Meiphung Productions has cultivated over the years.
Beyond the Big Screen
In addition to the premiere, Meiphung Productions has ambitious plans for the future. The production house is set to launch web streaming services later this year, which will be open to collaborations with other production houses on a sharing basis. This initiative aims to bring Tangkhul stories to a wider audience and provide a platform for local filmmakers to showcase their talents.
One of Meiphung’s upcoming projects is its ninth film, which will be based on the tragic true story of Ql.Luingamla, a brave and innocent woman whose legacy lives on in the Tangkhul community. Her story, which remains largely unknown outside the region, continues to inspire women who wear the Luingamla Kashan (a traditional Tangkhul magla named in her honor). This poignant narrative promises to be another masterpiece from Meiphung Productions, blending cultural heritage with cinematic storytelling.
Building a Legacy
Since its inception, Meiphung Productions has been a trailblazer in Tangkhul cinema, producing films that not only entertain but also provoke thought and spark dialogue about important social issues. The production house’s commitment to quality and authenticity has earned it accolades, including state-level awards for films such as Zingthanwo and others recognized for their artistic direction.
CEO Ranganing Ruivah emphasized the importance of storytelling in preserving and promoting Tangkhul culture. “Our films are more than just entertainment; they are a reflection of our identity and values,” he said.
The Road Ahead
As the countdown to Mashunwo’s premiere begins, excitement continues to build. Fans eagerly await the opportunity to walk the red carpet and experience a film that promises to be a milestone in Tangkhul cinema. With its compelling storyline, exceptional performances, and cutting-edge visuals, Mashunwo is poised to set new standards for regional filmmaking.
Mark your calendars for December 13 and join Meiphung Productions in celebrating the power of storytelling, justice, and community. The premiere of Mashunwo is not just an event; it’s a movement that reminds us all of the importance of standing up for what is right.
