Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), has issued a notification stating that the organisation will look into the manner in which Meitei script is being taught in CBSE and Catholic schools.
On July 14, 2024, MEELAL has launched a significant literacy campaign to promote Meetei Mayek in Jiribam. This initiative, part of their ongoing efforts, was organized across 38 centers in District 6, with approximately 10,000 students participating.
The event saw enthusiastic involvement from students, parents, and school authorities, who were commended by MEELAL for their support. The organization expressed its gratitude to all participants and promised to continue similar efforts to promote Meetei Mayek literacy.
MEELAL’s Secretary stated that the campaign aims to reinforce the teaching of Meetei Mayek in Catholic and CBSE schools, ensuring that students are proficient in their native script. The organization will monitor the implementation of Meetei Mayek in schools as mandated by the Manipur Gazette notification, encouraging all educational institutions to comply.
MEELAL will announce the results of the proficiency test on August 15 through print and electronic media. The prize distribution ceremony is scheduled for August 18, which is also the 22nd anniversary of MEELAL.
