MCPCR takes suo moto case to the mysterious deaths of mother and daughter

The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken suo moto cognizance of a tragic incident involving the mysterious deaths of a mother and her four-year-old daughter. The bodies of Ningombam Bansanti Devi, wife of the late Adhikarimayum Thouba Sharma, and her daughter, Lanchenbi, were discovered lying on their bed at their home in Lilong Haoreibi under the jurisdiction of Wangoi Police Station on the morning of September 23, 2024.
In response to this incident, the MCPCR, led by Chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar, conducted a site visit to the locality on October 5, 2024. During the visit, the Commission engaged with local residents and representatives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to gather insights and statements regarding the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Recognizing the severity of this incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of both a mother and her minor daughter, the State Commission has urged the Superintendent of Police in Imphal West to conduct a swift and impartial investigation. The MCPCR has emphasized the need for transparency and thoroughness in the inquiry, underscoring the importance of justice for the victims and their families.
Furthermore, the Commission has directed the Superintendent of Police to submit an action taken report as soon as possible to ensure accountability and progress in the investigation. The MCPCR’s intervention highlights its commitment to protecting child rights and addressing issues of violence and injustice in the state.
