MAYOL’s long march for National Regeneration entered its 20th day today and will conclude with a public meeting tomorrow at Manipur University campus.
A Prince, the Convenor of MAYOL (Manipur Youth League), appealed to the people to attend the public meeting where a resolution for the regeneration of Manipur will be made.
“MAYOL’s long march for national regeneration, which started on December 20, will conclude on January 9 after a public meeting at Manipur University complex, set for 11 am,” Prince told the media at Wangkhei Mehoubam ground.
On the 20th day, the MAYOL long march reached Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak in Imphal East district, where a public meeting was held with Dr. Ningombam Shreema, Assistant Professor at Nambol L Sanoi College, and Ch. Bijoy, a Socio-Political Commentator, as speakers.
Dr. N. Shreema expressed that we have lost our social capital, which is why we have suffered. She also discussed the lack of trust within the intercommunity. She further appreciated MAYOL for organizing such a rally at this juncture, stating that it is a positive step for society.
She also addressed the youth regarding the right to privacy. She emphasized that the right to privacy is being eroded day by day, and even within the community, there is a lack of understanding about this right. She mentioned that even state agencies are confused about the right to privacy. She used the example of knocking on a door before entering a house, stating that this cultural practice is not prevalent in our society. She emphasized the need for sex education in schools, colleges, and universities, despite the Indian state’s reluctance to accept it. She urged for increased awareness and education on the topic.
Dr. N. Shreema further expressed her disappointment that even the prime minister remains silent and inactive in the face of conflicts, only reacting when a video goes viral. She criticized the prime minister for not addressing important issues related to women’s rights.
Socio-political commentator Ch. Bijoy highlighted the historical significance of the three valleys during the Maharaj Garibaniwaz, also known as the Pamheiba period. He mentioned Kabow Valley, Imphal Valley, and Barak Valley, as well as the payment of taxes by the Burma king to the Meitei kings. He then drew a parallel to China’s long march under the leadership of Mao, stating that China also faced numerous challenges but eventually became a powerful country.
Retired MCS officer and writer Hareshwar Goshwami also shared his views on the current conflict.
After the meeting, the dedicated young volunteers of MAYOL continued their march towards Bamon Leikai, Khongman Manzil, Singjamei Thong, and NH-2.
The second public meeting will take place at Kakwa Lamdaibung Lampak today evening.
