Ukhrul, Jan 30:

In a powerful demonstration of public sentiment, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), along with its key frontal organizations—Tangkhul Naga Awunga Long (TNAL), Tangkhul Katamnao Shaklong (TKS), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL)—has urged Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to immediately revoke the transfer order of Zuringla Kengoo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ukhrul District.
A protest was staged on Thursday at the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat and the DC’s official residence, with demonstrators asserting that Kengoo’s transfer would disrupt administrative stability and development in the district. Holding banners and raising slogans, the protesters demanded that the government reconsider its decision in the larger interest of the community.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the organizations highlighted Kengoo’s exceptional leadership, citing her efficiency, accountability, and people-centric approach as key reasons for her continued tenure. They emphasized that Ukhrul has witnessed significant administrative reforms under her leadership and that removing her at this critical juncture would be detrimental to governance.
“We wish to make it loud and clear that there is immense public pressure to cancel the transfer of Zuringla Kengoo. Her tenure as Deputy Commissioner has been marked by transparency and dedication, and she has earned the trust of the people. The district needs her continued leadership to ensure the smooth implementation of various development initiatives,” the letter stated.
Speaking at the protest site, Eli Thingreiphy Lungharwoshi, President of Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), stressed that Kengoo’s administration has brought visible changes to Ukhrul and that her transfer at a time when Manipur is facing serious challenges would be a grave mistake.
“There has been a significant transformation under her leadership. Given the volatile situation in Manipur, this is not the right time for such a transfer. We fervently appeal to the government to revoke the order in the best interest of all communities. If our demand is ignored, we will intensify our agitation until the transfer is revoked,” she warned.
The letter, signed by representatives of all five organizations, strongly urged the Chief Minister to prioritize public welfare and reconsider the decision. The protesters also warned of continued demonstrations if the government failed to act swiftly.
As tensions rise, the Tangkhul community now awaits a response from the state government, hoping that their concerns will be addressed and that Kengoo will be allowed to continue serving Ukhrul District.
