Imphal, Feb 4: Maoist Communist Party, Manipur today said that providing Congress Ticket to an immigrant is a challenge to the peoples’ movement for protection of the Indigenous people of the state. In a statement, the rebel group said that the very act of proving party ticket to a non local showed that Congress party has been cheating the people of the region. It said time has come for the people to stand together and fight against the Congress party to protect the indigenous people of the state.
The statement further said that the aim of the congress party is to win election with the help of non local people by making vote banks. Such strategy are noticed at Thangmeiband, Sagolband, Sugunu, Sekmai Jiribam and Kangpokpi assembly constituencies.
Stating that the act of the of the congress party is to demolish the indigenous people of the state, the rebel group appealed all the communities of the state to stage a torch rally on the evening of February 11 and appealed all sections to cease work on February 12 and to stage a mass rally for protection of the Indigenous people of the state.
The outfit said that Before British conquered and colonized Manipur, the Kingdom already had various laws to protect the indigenous people. It said in 1903 the kingdom appointed foreigner mauzudar and in 1931 the kingdom open a Foreigner department to deal with the illegal entry of the outsiders in the kingdom. In 1947, an act called Manipur Neutralization Act was passed to check the illegal entry of outsiders even from India. Such legislation were lifted on Novemebr 18, 1950, after the Kingdom was forcefully annex to the Indian Union. Moreover, the Congress Party in Manipur had convened a meeting and adopted a resolution for allowing the free entry of the Indian people on October 4, 1947. The resolution adopted in that meeting stated that – “ The present passport system which applies to Indian entering Manipur state is quite unsuited to the present political situation of India and therefore demanding the immediate lifting of the passport system”, said the rebel group. It added that since that time the Congress party has been cheating the people and it continue till today by allowing the outsider even to contest election.
